Fluxus Box - Alice in Wonderland

- Fluxus Box: Alice in Wonderland -

13 x 3.25 x 8.35 inches, Wood, ink, paint, fur, twine, lace, ceramic, and paper.

I created a box from wood to represent the 1951 film, Alice in Wonderland. The hinges are handmade from cherry wood and bamboo dowels. The outside of the box is covered in various wood pieces to mimic the Mad Hatter's hat. The inside consists of five objects. The rabbit's foot symbolizes luck, curiosity, and the character of the White Rabbit. The wooden spinner represents the magic mushrooms that Alice eats in the film, with a heavy emphasis on drug induced effects. The lace surrounds a small porcelain painted doll and a chipped piece of porcelain to represent Alice's innoncence and youth. The wooden letter blocks also show Alice's youth and can be rearranged to create different words. The puzzle cube symbolizes the Cheshire Cat with his pink and purple color scheme and mysterious nature.
